Cambodia Geography
Where is Cambodia?
Cambodia is a country located in Southeast Asia, bordered by Thailand to the northwest, Laos to the northeast, Vietnam to the east, and the Gulf of Thailand to the southwest. The capital city is Phnom Penh.
Cambodia has a total land area of approximately 181,035 square kilometers and a population of around 16.8 million people. The country's terrain is characterized by low-lying central plains, the Mekong River Delta in the south, and the Cardamom Mountains in the southwest. Cambodia's coastline along the Gulf of Thailand is relatively short, at around 443 kilometers.
The Mekong River is the largest river in Cambodia and flows through much of the country's eastern and southern regions. The Tonle Sap Lake, located in central Cambodia, is the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia and an important source of fish for the country's population.
Cambodia experiences a tropical climate with two distinct seasons: the wet season from May to October and the dry season from November to April. The country is also prone to natural disasters such as floods, droughts, and typhoons.
Cambodian Season
Cambodia has two distinct seasons: the rainy season (also known as the "green season") and the dry season.
The rainy season usually begins in May or June and lasts until October or November. During this time, the country experiences frequent rainfall, with the heaviest downpours usually occurring in August and September. The temperature during this season is usually cooler, with average temperatures ranging from 24 to 30 degrees Celsius (75 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit). The rainy season is an important time for farmers, as it provides much-needed water for crops and replenishes rivers and lakes.
The dry season begins in November or December and lasts until April or May. During this season, the weather is generally dry and sunny, with little to no rain. The temperature during the dry season is usually hotter than the rainy season, with average temperatures ranging from 26 to 36 degrees Celsius (79 to 97 degrees Fahrenheit). This season is a popular time for tourists to visit Cambodia, as the weather is generally favorable for outdoor activities and sightseeing.
It's worth noting that while the above descriptions are generalizations, climate patterns can vary depending on the specific region of Cambodia. For example, coastal areas may experience different weather patterns than inland areas.
